Oliver M. Crosby's Publications After 1888

Following the publication of his cornerstone promotional guidebook Florida Facts Both Bright and Blue in 1887 and a subsequent promotional pamphlet in 1888, Oliver M. Crosby did not issue any later editions or new promotional books regarding Florida real estate.[florida-facts-1887] Comprehensive archival searches confirm that no 1888, 1889, or 1890 editions of Florida Facts were ever published.[florida-facts-1887]

The only other known historical work authored by Crosby is an unpublished manuscript titled Avon Park’s History, 1885 to 1896, which he wrote in 1919.[pk-yonge-manuscript] This document provides a firsthand retrospective account of the settlement’s founding and growth before the Great Freeze of 1895 ended Crosby’s direct involvement in the town’s development.

The 1919 manuscript is currently held by the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History in Gainesville, Florida, and remains undigitized.[pk-yonge-manuscript] Excerpts from it were published in the Highlands Pilot newspaper in August 1919, and it has since been widely cited as a primary source in official historical documentation, including the National Register of Historic Places registration forms for Avon Park landmarks.[nps-register-avon-park] No digitized visual assets of Crosby or original copies of his promotional pamphlets were found in public online repositories; physical collections remain at the Avon Park Depot Museum and the P.K. Yonge Library.
