The Fremont Clipper dispatch on the Pabor Lake Pineapple (1893)
A queue item recorded a quotation attributed to The Fremont Clipper of Lander, Wyoming, dated 31 March 1893: “Mr. W. E. Pabor, known to nearly everyone in Colorado, has started a paper at Avon Park, Florida, called the Pineapple.” The item was hypothesized to date the founding of the paper.
Trailing news, not a founding date
The Pabor Lake Pineapple began publication in October 1892, established by its surviving Issue No. 1.[pineapple] The March 1893 item in The Fremont Clipper is therefore trailing regional news, printed five months after the fact to update western readers on Pabor’s activities following his time in Colorado. It does not establish the paper’s founding date.
Unverified verbatim text
A digital harvest of the Library of Congress (loc.gov) and University of Florida archives failed to retrieve the verbatim text of this dispatch from The Fremont Clipper. This failure appears partly due to the misdirected initial queries searching for “Pabor Lake Pineapple” instead of “the Pineapple”, and partly due to API blocking (Cloudflare). As a result, the quotation remains an unverified secondary claim from a prior collection phase.
Because the Pabor Lake Pineapple’s own surviving file establishes its October 1892 founding, the unverified Wyoming dispatch is superseded as dating evidence.
