Louie R. Marlin

Louie R. Marlin is reported to have arrived in Avon Park in May 1917 as a crewman for the W. P. Kennedy Construction Company, which had been contracted to pave Main Street with sand asphalt and build the hard-surfaced highway south to Sebring.[maxwell-1976]

According to local historian Leoma Bradshaw Maxwell, Marlin and his fellow crewman Paul L. Rumpsa chose to remain permanently in Avon Park after the road construction concluded.[maxwell-1976] Maxwell records that Louie Marlin subsequently married Miss Mable Turner.[maxwell-1976]

No contemporary civic, property, or census records from Avon Park or Highlands County have been found to corroborate Marlin’s continued residence or his marriage to Mable Turner. Without independent documentation, his presence in the town’s history relies entirely on a single secondary account.
