Polk County Grove after the Freeze, Showing Foliage and Fruit on the Trees
A Polk County orange grove said to be carrying foliage and fruit after a freeze, with pickers beneath the trees.
An engraved plate from Oliver Marvin Crosby’s Florida Facts, Both Bright and Blue (1887). Crosby founded Avon Park two years earlier; these plates are the imagery he and his contemporaries used to sell Florida land to northern buyers, and they should be read as promotion rather than as record.
